I almost missed the September deadline, but if you need an excuse, I was holding out for the official release of the West London Orbital (WLO) consultation! 🤣 It has been a busy few weeks with several major news announcements regarding Old Oak Common: First, in mid-August, HS2 Ltd officially announced the structural completion of the six 450-metre-long underground high-speed platforms. Second, on September 23, Transport for London (TfL) officially launched the public consultation and business case for the West London Orbital (WLO). The proposed Old Oak Common Lane station will be situated in the triangular plot between the North London Line and the Dudding Hill Line. The WLO will undoubtedly boost wider connectivity across West London. Furthermore, this same plot is planned to host an east-west pedestrian bridge, which is crucial for accessibility to the HS2 Old Oak Common station. Finally, on September 29, HS2 Ltd, Network Rail, TfL, and the Department for Transport announced a landmark agreement: by optimising and lowering the track bed design for the conventional platforms (Platforms 5 to 8), level boarding will be successfully achieved for all Elizabeth Line services stopping at the Old Oak Common superhub. Old Oak Common Main Site (Main Station Box Area) With the underground high-speed platforms structurally complete, surface construction forces have been visibly strengthened. Most notably, earthworks and land levelling are progressing rapidly on both the eastern and western sides of the conventional platforms, laying the groundwork for the eventual integration with the Great Western Main Line (GWML) tracks. 2. Victoria Road Crossover Box & Tunnelling Logistics As the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) advance, the engineering team is continuously feeding precast concrete tunnel segments and track materials through this crossover box to support the ongoing tunnelling efforts towards London Euston. 3. Willesden Euroterminal Excavators are working around the clock to load massive quantities of excavated tunnel spoil onto freight trains. Meanwhile, precast tunnel segments arrive directly by rail from County Durham. These are then transferred onto heavy trailers, transported through the logistics tunnel to the Crossover Box area, and eventually lowered for assembly.
