How the UAE Is Building a Second Oil Pipeline to Bypass the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints. But the United Arab Emirates has another route. The UAE already operates the Abu Dhabi Crude Oil Pipeline, or ADCOP, carrying crude from the western oil system toward Fujairah on the Gulf of Oman side of the country. Now ADNOC is building a second West–East pipeline designed to expand export capacity through Fujairah. In this documentary, we explore how engineers can move enormous volumes of crude across an entire country — from desert pipeline construction and welding to hydraulic pressure management, corrosion protection, storage, terminal operations and tanker loading. We also examine why this new pipeline does not make the Strait of Hormuz irrelevant. A bypass is not just a pipe. It is an entire system: Oil supply → Long-distance pipeline → Pumping and pressure control → Integrity management → Fujairah receiving and storage → Marine loading → Tanker export The existing Habshan–Fujairah corridor provides the engineering precedent. The new West–East project is intended to add substantially more export capacity, with operation currently targeted for 2027.
