He held the Kunstharmonium (an instrument no longer in vogue today) in such high regard for its wide range of dynamic expression and colour that he composed over 100 works for it. A friendship with Max Reger (which would unfortunately later sour) spurred Karg-Elert to transcribe many of these works for the organ, and there followed over 250 original and highly impressionistic organ pieces. The famous 'Marche triomphale', a chorale prelude on the hymn of thanksgiving, 'Now thank we all our God' is taken from Op. 65 (No. 59) of his Chorale Improvisations. Many thanks to Carlos Fernandez Bollo for his invitation to play in León and for facilitating this recital.
