In this video, we document a high-stakes emergency mountain rescue operation after a dangerous runaway incident on a steep mountain transport route. A heavy-duty agricultural tractor hauling a loaded utility trailer suffered a total, unexpected brake failure while negotiating a sharp incline. Acting with lightning-fast instincts, our experienced driver leaped out of the cab to safety moments before the entire rig plunged over the ridge into a deep, water-filled quarry pit. Both the tractor and trailer were completely submerged beneath deep murky water. Our brave local mechanical and recovery team immediately jumped into action. With zero time to lose, one of our fearless crew members waded deep into the freezing, murky water to dive beneath the surface, manually securing heavy steel towing chains, shackles, and recovery cables to the submerged tractor's heavy axle frame. The courage and sheer determination of our mechanical team under extreme underwater conditions set the stage for this massive multi-machine extraction operation. MACHINE SPECIFICATIONS & EXTRACTION ATTEMPTS: 1. Hitachi EX200 Hydraulic Excavator Recovery: To pull the heavy submerged tractor out, we deployed our tracked Hitachi EX200 excavator, equipped with a specialized heavy-duty chisel-mounted attachment point. Powered by its turbocharged ISUZU 6BG1T diesel engine producing 148 Horsepower and an operating weight exceeding 20 metric tons, the Hitachi EX200 engaged its full hydraulic break-out force. Generating massive pulling torque through heavy steel rigging chains, the EX200 successfully broke the water's surface tension, winching the fully submerged tractor completely out of the deep water trench and dragging it onto solid mountain rock ground. Shortly after, a Caterpillar wheel loader was hooked up to tow the tractor safely back to our repair yard. 2. The Submerged Trailer Recovery Failure (Cat 966F Twin-Loader Force): While the tractor was extracted successfully, retrieving the water-logged utility trailer turned into an intense engineering struggle. Our team member plunged back into the deep water pit to attach primary tow chains to the trailer's main tongue and structural chassis. The Hitachi EX200 was re-engaged to pull the trailer toward the bank, but the immense weight of the mud-laden chassis combined with extreme underwater suction forced the 148 HP excavator to its physical limit, lifting its rear steel tracks completely off the rocky ground. Realizing the extreme resistance, we called in our Cat 966F wheel loader—powered by a heavy-duty Caterpillar 3306 turbocharged engine delivering 220 Horsepower and massive low-end torque. When a single Cat 966F couldn't break the suction, we brought in a second Cat 966F wheel loader for a dual tandem recovery setup. With both Cat 966F loaders coupled together in a synchronized double-tow formation, we unleashed a combined crushing power of over 440 to 500 Horsepower and massive joint rim-pull force. Despite both Cat heavy engines roaring at full throttle, tires spinning, and steel tow chains stretched to their absolute safety thresholds, the heavy trailer remained firmly locked in the mud-suckered deep water trench. The combined muscle of the Hitachi EX200 excavator and dual Cat 966F wheel loaders proved unsuccessful against the severe underwater vacuum. WHAT IS COMING NEXT IN PART 2: Because horizontal pulling force from two heavy Caterpillar wheel loaders and a 20-ton excavator could not overcome the extreme underwater suction and weight of the trapped trailer, this recovery requires massive vertical lifting power.
