What Really Happened To Ace of Base? The Full Story

What really happened to Ace of Base? This Ace of Base documentary tells the true story of the Swedish band behind The Sign, All That She Wants and Happy Nation: every record label said no, a demo tape got stuck in a car stereo, and three years later they had one of the best-selling debut albums of all time. And why did Linn Berggren disappear from the spotlight? In this video: • A basement studio in Gothenburg, next door to a Jamaican reggae band • Over 100 demo tapes, and every label turned them down • The tape stuck in Denniz PoP's car stereo that became All That She Wants • Ulf Ekberg's past, the headline, and his apology • Clive Davis, Arista, Don't Turn Around, and how "The Sign" went to No. 1 in America • The first Swedish group ever to top the American album chart • The night a fan with a knife broke into the Berggren family home • 179 flights in one year • The James Bond song that never made it into GoldenEye • Beautiful Life, Max Martin and The Bridge • Linn Berggren, the singer who never wanted the spotlight • Where are they now: Jenny, Ulf, Jonas and Linn today With interviews with Jenny Berggren, Ulf Ekberg, Jonas Berggren, Linn Berggren and Denniz PoP. 0:00 – Introduction Ace Of Base 1:38 – The Formation of Ace of Base 3:01 – Label Rejections & The Mega Records Deal 4:23 – The Stuck Cassette: Creating "All That She Wants" 6:49 – Ulf Ekberg's Past Controversy 8:37 – Clive Davis & Conquering the US Market 10:33 – Breaking Billboard Chart Records 12:06 – The 1994 Home Invasion 13:33 – Relentless Touring & The Lost James Bond Theme 15:38 – The Bridge & Max Martin's Breakthrough 16:30 – Linn Steps Out of the Spotlight 18:57 – Changing Lineups & The Golden Ratio 19:55 – Hall of Fame Induction & Enduring Legacy Archive footage, photos and music excerpts belong to their respective owners and are shown for commentary, criticism and education.
