Once Upon A Time… Nasio Fontaine 🔥 Nature Island’s Free Son An original roots reggae tribute by Lyric Poupette Production This original tribute is dedicated to Nasio Fontaine, a living legend of conscious roots reggae from the Commonwealth of Dominica, born in 1969 in the village of Carte-Bois, in the Bagatelle area of Dominica. Nasio is the youngest of seven children, born to a Kalinago mother, from the Indigenous people of Dominica, and a father of African descent. Raised in a simple one-room wooden house without running water or electricity, Nasio grew up close to nature, rhythm, faith and survival. As a child, he sang in school and church choirs, made instruments from what he could find, and carried music in his hands before the world knew his name. In 1981, he left Dominica for St. Maarten, where reggae and Rastafari entered his life more deeply. Influenced by voices such as Joseph Hill, Burning Spear, Jacob Miller and Bob Marley, Nasio began to shape his own path, not by waiting for the industry to choose him, but by working, saving, recording, promoting and distributing his music himself. His first 12-inch single “Born to Be Free” was recorded in 1986 and became a major Caribbean success, selling thousands of copies in St. Maarten. He later released “Babylon Is Falling”, then albums such as “Reggae Power” in 1994, “Wolf Catcher” in 1997, “Revolution” in 1999, “Living in the Positive” in 2003/2004, and “Universal Cry” in 2006 on Greensleeves. But this tribute is not a copy, not a cover, and not an imitation. It is an original creation, born from deep respect for Nasio Fontaine’s story, his silence, his roots, and the powerful freedom carried by his voice. For this tribute, I wanted to create a different vibration: a deep roots reggae bassline, drums beating like living hearts, the memory of African roots, the ancestral breath of Kalinago heritage, and the wild beauty of Nature Island: mountains, forest, river, sea and spirit. Nasio Fontaine is a living legend who seems to have chosen silence, but whose voice has never stopped speaking. Nature Island’s free son. Born from roots and sun. A voice the silence could not hold.
