A tactical 15+10 Rapid Chess battle on Lichess against Sanyadollarminsk, rated 2023! Playing Black with the Petrov's Defense: Cochrane Gambit, Center Variation, this game starts with an early knight sacrifice and quickly turns into a dangerous king hunt. After: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 White decides to go all-in with 4.Nxf7?!, sacrificing another knight to drag my king to f7. I accept: 4...Kxf7 But White continues throwing pieces and checks forward with 5.d4, 6.Bc4+, and eventually 7.Bxe6+. My king gets dragged all the way to e6 before finally escaping back towards safety. The position remains extremely sharp, with White's queen repeatedly looking for checks: 10.Qh5+ Kf8 11.Qf5+ Nf6 But the attack never quite materialises. Meanwhile, Black's pieces begin taking over the centre. The knights become particularly dangerous, with 16...Nb4, 17...Nxc2, 18...Nxd4 and 20...Nb4, picking off pawns and creating serious threats. Then comes a major tactical sequence: 24.Rxf6+ Bxf6 25.Qxh7 Rh8 White's queen grabs another pawn, but Black's rooks and queen are now extremely active. After the queenside starts opening, the game reaches a critical position where White plays 35.bxc5?, allowing a forced mating attack. The engine finds a devastating sequence beginning with: 35...Rxh3+! White has to capture: 36.gxh3 But that simply allows: 36...Qe4+! The king is driven towards the corner, and then comes the killer move: 37...Bd4+ 💀 WHITE RESIGNS! The mating attack is unavoidable, and the combination of queen, bishop and rook creates a devastating net around the king.
