Leaving Pietism: Finding Rest in Christ | Theocast

At Theocast we talk a lot about pietism—but what is it, how does it differ from true piety, and what does it do to weary Christians? Jon Moffitt, Justin Perdue, and Jimmy Buehler unpack how hyper-focus on personal performance, affections, and "enough" obedience disorients the Christian life—and point you back to rest in Christ, union with him, and ordinary faithfulness that flows from the gospel. In this episode you'll hear: Pietism vs piety: concern for holiness that quietly relocates assurance How performance and introspection call union with Christ into question Why "lazy Christian" rhetoric often fuels fear instead of love Ephesians pattern: rest in Christ first, then walk worthy Second Peter and good works: forgetting cleansing vs questioning cleansing Standing with the Reformers—not inventing a soft Christianity Encouragement for people stuck in pietistic church contexts (members portion) Who it's for: Christians who wake up measuring legitimacy by quiet time, feelings, or spiritual progress; pastors spotting pietism in "serious" Reformed or evangelical spaces; anyone longing for rest without antinomianism.
