What If God’s Provision Looks Like People? | When You’re Used to Being the Strong One

What if depending on God sometimes means allowing yourself to depend on the people He has placed around you? This is something God has been teaching me personally. Over the summer, I had been sitting with Elijah's story in 1 Kings 17. At the brook, Elijah gives us an incredible picture of dependence on God: God tells him where to go, provides water and even commands ravens to feed him. Then the brook dries up. And God doesn't simply give Elijah another brook. He sends him to a person. A widow who has enormous needs of her own. Then Mark 2:5 gave me another piece of the picture. Four friends carry a paralysed man to Jesus, and Scripture says, “When Jesus saw their faith…” Their faith. Sometimes faith looks like carrying your friend. Sometimes faith looks like allowing yourself to be carried. In this message, I share some of what God has been teaching me through a difficult few weeks about vulnerability, fellowship, receiving help and recognising that the people around us can themselves be part of God's provision. Because, perhaps depending on God was never supposed to mean becoming independent of one another.
