In simpler terms, it represents the crest of a wave at any given moment in time. Huygens' Principle Huygens' Principle, proposed by Dutch physicist Christiaan Huygens in 1678, is a method of analysis applied to problems of wave propagation both in the far-field limit and in near-field diffraction. It states that every point on a wavefront acts as a source of secondary spherical wavelets, and the sum of these secondary wavelets determines the shape of the wave at any subsequent time.
