Atlantic 🔷 584035 Test Press 🔷 Joe Tex 🔷 You Better Believe It Baby & I Believe I'm Gonna Make It 🔷 1966 🔗 https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/auction... Description This Northern Soul favourite's by far rarest variation. There are no registered sales of this August 1966 British test press with hand-wriitten credits, on Discogs, although there is an image. So at least one other example "exists" in the world. As you'd expect sound fidelity is as good as it gets, with no more than a handful of this FIRST STRIKE test-press ever leaving the confines of Polydor HQ, 17–19 Stratford Place, London, W1N for testing and review purposes. "You Better Believe It Baby / I Believe I'm Gonna Make It" were typically standout "Tex" creations. Tex wrote both of them with his career long, trusted producer "Buddy Klein" who was always muscling-up the arrangement, to the nth degree. "You Better Believe It Baby" was of course a huge Wigan Casino / Cleethorpes Pier dancefloor crammer, still strongly requested by the dancefloor today. Featuring Tex himself, delivering those fearsome guitar pulses into the mix, making it an indelible stomper of ther scene; that became so popular it was counterfeited as both the USA releases the PROMO copy and a red stock release. "I Believe I'm Gonna Make It" made the USA release a double-A-side with this vivid Southern Soul ballad painting a vivid picture of a young soldier trying to stay alive in Viet Nam keeping his head-down in a foxhole hoping to stay alive until his furlough comes through in just a few months time. Mr. Tex just like his archrival James Brown certainly knew how to capture the very essence of the despondent, whilst hopeful Soul ballad. Two truly superior soul recording in by far its rarest format. Condition Report Only the A-side only had the distinction of being denoted with pre-release information.
