There are various legends surrounding it, such as that it was “sung for a celestial maiden who appeared on the island” or that it “recounts an old woman’s memories of the past.” Since the song has been passed down orally, the lyrics are believed to have gradually evolved over time, and the current version includes adaptations into modern language as well as new interpretations.
