Tonight, we softly explore strange matter — a hypothetical form of matter made not only from up and down quarks, like ordinary protons and neutrons, but also from strange quarks.
In some theories, if quarks are packed under extreme pressure, such as inside neutron stars, they may form a new state called strange quark matter. Tiny pieces of it are sometimes called strangelets.
What makes strange matter so fascinating is the idea that it might be unusually stable under the right conditions. Some physicists have wondered whether entire strange stars could exist, made of this exotic material instead of ordinary nuclear matter.
