How Bruce Gandy Chooses His Bagpipe Reeds | Conversations with Pipers

What does Bruce Gandy look for when selecting a chanter reed? And what's with all that chirping? Join Bruce Gandy and Adrian Melvin of Melvin Reeds for a conversation about choosing the right bagpipe chanter reed. Bruce works his way through a selection of Melvin Brass reeds, demonstrating his approach to reed selection and explaining what he's listening and feeling for along the way. From the initial chirp to finding the right sound and response, it's an opportunity to hear how an experienced solo piper evaluates reeds and what matters when choosing one. Whether you're a competitive solo piper, a pipe band player, or simply trying to better understand your reeds, we hope you'll pick up something useful from this conversation. Conversations with Pipers is a Melvin Reeds series featuring discussions with pipers about playing, equipment, technique, and the experiences they've gained along the way.
