In Fujian, China, there are villages where much of the local population now lives overseas, especially in the United States. I traveled to Zeli and Fuqi, two villages near Fuzhou, to see what these communities look like after decades of migration. Behind the quiet streets and large houses is a story of families separated across countries, strong migration networks, and a place where moving abroad gradually became a common path for many people. This video explores why so many people from this part of Fujian left for America, how migration reshaped their hometowns, and what “home” means when much of a village is living somewhere else.
