Nepali Folk Song   / navneetwaiba     / navneetadityawaiba   AYE SYANGBO- A Tamang Selo: (Our first presentation) We present ‘Aye Syangbo’ as a tribute to our beloved Mother Late Hira Devi Waiba. ‘Aye Syangbo’ is a typical ‘Tamang Selo’ (Nepali Folk Song) and was written in the Sixties by our Grandfather Shri Singh Maan Waiba (Mummy’s Guru and the genius behind her music) and recorded by Mummy Late Hira Devi Waiba in 1974. ‘Aye Syangbo’ has manifold stories in its lyrics and melody. It speaks of bereavement, betrayal, turmoil, great love and anguish. It speaks of geographical locations, Bhot (Tibet), Madesh (India), about Gods and Goddesses, nature, birds and animals all meshed up in a beautiful harmony. In one stanza it subtly narrates, in Tamang and Nepali language, the exile of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama from Tibet and the departure from his beloved Lhasa (It was a very politically sensitive topic back then) the reason why we decided to lay the ‘dung chen’ (Tibeten Horns) and Buddhist chant in the track. Though our beloved Mother and a Legend of the Nepali community is not amongst us anymore, we will endeavor to revive her spirit, her commitment, passion, love and immense contribution to Nepali Folk Music the best we can.
