WATCH: Portland City Council to hold first vote on Moda Center upgrades

Portland city councilors are poised to vote today on a term sheet that could set major renovations at the Moda Center in motion and help keep the Portland Trail Blazers in the city for the next 20 years. This is just the beginning and not a final deal. It's part of the process toward keeping the Trail Blazers in Portland. The proposal includes a late, 11th-hour amendment made last night. Under the change, councilors want the Trail Blazers affiliate Rip City Management, which operates the Moda Center, to pay $2 million a year in rent. That would be in addition to $3 million a year the city is asking the team to pay in lieu of property taxes. City leaders are seeking millions more in annual payments from the Trail Blazers in exchange for what the city would contribute toward renovating the arena. The city council meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. The meeting is open to the public but there will not be any public testimony. READ MORE | https://katu.com/news/local/watch-por...
