it took HOURS to get this working because I'm a stupid fuck
I managed to get Yomi hustle working with local play by having 2 instances running simultaneously and playing against each other on direct connect mode with mods
(This is a glorified LAN party with one computer and one monitor lmao)
here's how to do it in a nutshell (please don't ask me for shit in the comments I just figured this out myself if you're having issues figure it out, my head hurts too much)
Step 1: run your main instance of YOMI on steam.
Step 2: run your 2nd instance by right clicking on yomi hustle on the steam library - manage - then browse local files and your only move is hustle.exe
Step 3: When both instances are running click on direct connect and host, then have your second window click on direct connect and join, your second instance will join and you'll be able to play against each other with one computer with the benefit of actually being able to indulge in mind games without hot seating too much.
"I want to have mods for the 2nd instance how do I do that?"
I am so fucking glad you asked, I say as I put the gun to my head
Step 3: Open a seperate tab and go to your steam directory at Program Files (x86)/Steam/Steamapps
Step 4: Once you're here instead of doing the usual of Steamapps/Common/ your game directory you'll go to Steamapps/Workshop/Content/2212330 this is your yomi workshop mods directory
Step 5: IMPORTANT go to the search bar inside of 2212330 and put .zip this'll make the zip files of your mods appear instead of the folders, and we need this why? Because the game will only read mods on the second instance if they're zip, now just copy and paste every single zip file through your preferred method (CTRL+A or drag and dropping) to the mod folder of your YOMI Hustle game directory
Step 6: Once you drag and drop every file into your mod directory and it finishes moving over, you're good to go
Things to note:
1. I highly recommend running your first instance of the game (Aka the one you're hosting with as player 1) through steam, wait for a little from 30 seconds- up to a minute and then run the second instance through your YOMI Hustle browse local file's location , that'll make things easier
2. There is a nonzero chance your game won't be able to start on steam if you moved your mods to your main yomi hustle directory, first of all again COPY PASTE YOUR MODS, DON'T CUT THEM TO YOUR MOD FOLDER, secondly, my recommendation for this is go to Steamapps/common and to copy paste your YOMI hustle game to a different directory, if you have a second hard drive in my case a D: drive place that copy paste anywhere on the D: drive and delete the mod.zips from your main YOMI Directory , this'll alleviate that issue.
3. When you boot up your second instance of YOMI after the first with mods and it WORKS there is a high non-zero chance you might end up with a weird bug where you can't click on any of the main menu options no matter what option you hover over but you can click on mod list, mod options or codex. I'm gonna be honest, I don't have a mouse and keyboard solution for this but what I CAN tell you is that you can bypass this issue by setting up a controller & enabling steam input, this'll let you pick those options with your controller and connect to your main instance on direct connect, from there on once you're on the character select screen you can pretty much use mouse & keyboard again on your second directory.
4. I would recommend against having a different username per player on instance, when I tried that and I had player 2 connect to player 1 player 2 was missing a character select screen.
That's all I have for this Yomi """""LOCAL MULTIPLAYER""""" test and I shared all the knowledge I have, I got nothing else for you man, don't ask me for shit in the comments
