First round of the 2009 FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, game 2: Wang Hao (2708) against Joshua Friedel (2551), in the Berlin Defense. White comes out of the opening with an edge and keeps it with a series of precise moves, from 12.Nxc6 to 16.dxc6; 19.Nxb6 gives some of it back, but the rook moves 33.Rh8+, 35.Rxc7 and 37.Rg7+ push the c-pawn through. Both sides promote, 38...h1=Q and 39.c8=Q, and Black resigns after 44.Qc7. Wang Hao vs Friedel — Wang Hao vs Joshua Friedel, Khanty-Mansiysk 2009. FIDE World Cup 2009, round 1, game 2.
