Katmai Bearcap: The 284s - Tubby Cubbies by the River (& a Poignant Moment)

It's that time of the season where we marvel at the bodacious bears and feel thankful for every tubby cubby who's conquering their first summer. The cuteness, the bonds, the lessons... It's the perfect time to look back on a magnificent summer - and this year, it's certainly been the summer of new life in Katmai. But sometimes, as we find ourselves relishing moments with these furry families, we also stumble upon a somber reminder that it hasn't all been splashing, cuddling, and celebration. We've lost a few coy along the way this season - much like every season - and it's hurt. One of those stories that has hit me hard this year is 909's loss of both of her spring cubs. She's had a rough go of it... and even before this season. So while we're admiring the beauty and success of the 284s in these clips, there is one very special, uncut clip starting at TS 2:50 - and it is a touching moment. Bear 909 is found sitting in the river while Electra (284) & her two coy are bounding around. Electra doesn't protest 909's presence, and 909 is respectful in turn... but you can't help but view this moment from a human perspective.
