Passing Knots When Ascending Rope (3 Different Ways)

Using the following systems: 1. Texas System w/ 2x handled ascenders & 2x cows tails 2. RAD System 3. Frog System Caution: When using a pair of ascenders in the Texas System, make sure to size the cow's tail of the lower ascender (the one that the etrier should be attached to) appropriately. If you step up to weight this lower ascender via the etrier and then disconnect the upper ascender, you must ensure that there is no potential for more than 1 foot of free-fall distance in your cows tail. Only under this condition does either a handled ascender or a chest ascender count as a full point of connection on the rope. Otherwise, & if in any doubt, just rig in a descender prior to disconnecting any ascender/rope grab/friction hitch. Note: Adjustable & rated lanyards such as the Connect-Adjust (when connected to an upper ascender), allow for passing knots without the need to connect a descender or “catastrophe knot” prior to removing the primary progress capture mechanism. A single toothed cam rope grab under load in plumb line under this condition counts as a single point of connection.
