Torn Ginny Griffin, a Soul Purpose student director and 4th-year company member, has aimed to create a piece this year that encompasses the many struggles that follow a deep caring for another person. Her piece portrays the feeling that one is feeding every shred and drop of their energy and care to another without receiving any effort in return. They remain torn between pursuing the validation of another person despite the pain or ending their connection. In either choice they will become drained of all hope and trust in others while enduring the weight silently, the pain trapped inside their heart and brain. Ginny hopes that within this piece the dancers will be able to share a moment of vulnerability with the audience while also executing every drop of energy they have as the story depicts. She aims for the audience to be able to find a small comfort within this choreography while understanding the fear of being torn between your friendship and your happiness. Now here is, “Torn”.
