First time driving Kennon Road, and it has been raining since lunch. Part 1 is the bottom of the climb from Rosario, La Union toward Baguio: the Benguet boundary arch, Camp 1 and its red steel bridge, a waterfall pouring straight onto the road, Bridal Veil Falls (hiding behind the rain), and Twin Peaks, about 10 km and 270 m up. Filmed on 1 August 2026, two days before the DPWH closed the road to everyone but residents for Tropical Storm Luis.

🛣 About Kennon Road
• Opened 29 January 1905 as Benguet Road: 33.5 km from Rosario (about 160 m) to Baguio (about 1,500 m).
• Named after Col. Lyman W. V. Kennon of the US Army Corps of Engineers, who finished the job.
• Built in two years for over $2.7 million by thousands of workers from more than 30 countries, many of them Japanese. Hundreds are said to have died building it.
• Camps 1 to 8 began as the road builders' camps. They are now barangays of Tuba, Benguet.
• It closes automatically in heavy rain because of landslides and rockfall.
🚗 If you're planning the drive
• Check the DPWH Cordillera (DPWH-CAR) advisories the morning you leave. Kennon can close with an hour's notice.
• Fill up in Rosario. There's nothing reliable until Baguio.
• In rain, double whatever time the map gives you. Stay slow, stay on your side, and tap the horn before blind corners.
