Beide Stadtteile verbinden eine ruhige, grüne Umgebung mit einer guten Anbindung an die Innenstadt sowie an Düsseldorf. Während Buchholz vor allem durch seine gewachsenen Wohngebiete mit Einfamilienhäusern, gepflegten Gärten und kleineren Mehrfamilienhäusern geprägt ist, besitzt Huckingen mit seinem historischen Dorfkern eine noch ältere Geschichte. Huckingen wurde bereits im Mittelalter urkundlich erwähnt und war über Jahrhunderte ein landwirtschaftlich geprägtes Dorf, bevor es 1929 nach Duisburg eingemeindet wurde. Zu den bedeutendsten Bauwerken zählt die katholische Pfarrkirche St. Peter und Paul, deren Ursprünge bis ins 13. Jahrhundert zurückreichen. Das Schloss Huckingen, heute in Privatbesitz, erinnert an die adelige Vergangenheit des Ortes. Zwischen beiden Stadtteilen verlaufen zahlreiche Grünzüge und Radwege, die bis zur Sechs-Seen-Platte oder entlang des Angerbaches führen. Besonders das Neubaugebiet "Angerbogen" hat Huckingen in den vergangenen Jahren stark verändert und viele junge Familien angezogen. Gleichzeitig profitieren beide Stadtteile von der Nähe zur Düsseldorfer Stadtgrenze, zur Bundesstraße B8 sowie zu den Autobahnen A59 und A524. Straßenbahn- und Buslinien verbinden Buchholz und Huckingen mit der Duisburger Innenstadt und den umliegenden Städten. Die Mischung aus historischen Ortskernen, modernen Wohngebieten, viel Natur und einer guten Verkehrsanbindung macht beide Stadtteile zu attraktiven Wohnorten im Duisburger Süden. Duisburg-Buchholz and Huckingen are located in the southern part of the city and are among Duisburg’s most desirable residential districts. Both combine a quiet, green environment with excellent connections to Duisburg’s city center and nearby Düsseldorf. Buchholz is mainly characterized by established residential neighborhoods with detached houses, well-kept gardens, and smaller apartment buildings, while Huckingen retains the character of a historic village with a much older past. First mentioned in medieval records, Huckingen remained an agricultural settlement for centuries before becoming part of Duisburg in 1929. One of its most notable landmarks is the Catholic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, whose origins date back to the 13th century. Nearby Huckingen Castle, now privately owned, reflects the district’s aristocratic history. Green corridors and cycling paths connect both districts with the popular Six Lakes recreation area and the Angerbach valley. In recent years, the new Angerbogen residential development has significantly expanded Huckingen and attracted many young families. Both districts also benefit from their proximity to Düsseldorf, the B8 federal road, and the A59 and A524 motorways. Tram and bus services provide convenient access to central Duisburg and neighboring communities.
