Conversations with the Little One Inside I can hear danger in somebody's tone before I know if danger is there. I can raise my quills before anyone reaches for me. I can panic when I'm seen. I can say sorry for taking up space. I can hurt someone while trying to protect myself, then spend hours replaying the moment. So I gave those parts of me animals. A porcupine. A seahorse. A skunk. A coyote. They bite. They hide. They stink. They panic. They survive. Sometimes survival makes a mess. ANYMALS is a five-song journey through fear, defense, panic, shame, and survival. It's about learning the difference between what I do when I'm afraid and who I am underneath the reaction. I'm a disabled veteran, an independent songwriter, and a person who writes music to make sense of the things happening inside me. I write for myself, for my inner child, and for the parts of me that are still learning how to feel safe in the world. I call that younger part of me Little One. These songs are conversations with her. 🦊 THE SONGS 1. Coyote Part 1 (Licking Wounds) The gathering. The animal that gets hurt, gets lost, licks his wounds in the dark, and finds his feet again. Healing sometimes looks like starting over. Air • East • New Moon 2. Porcupine (Attack) The defense. Every quill listens for danger. Sometimes the quills fire before the threat is clear. Sometimes they hit somebody who was only trying to get close. Fire • South • Waxing Crescent 3. Seahorse (Panic) The spiral. Changing colors, freezing, thrashing, trying to disappear when being seen feels unbearable. The fear of being perceived and the shame that follows. Water • West • Waxing Gibbous 4. Skunk (Un-existing) The disappearance. Apologizing for needing things. Apologizing for occupying space. Wanting to vanish, while some stubborn little animal plants her feet and stays. Earth • North • First Quarter Moon 5. Coyote Part 2 (Left For Dead) The getting up anyway. Carrying wounds, acknowledging harm, finding compassion without abandoning accountability, and learning to keep walking. Spirit • Center • Full Moon Licking Wounds → Attack → Panic → Un-existing → Left For Dead Underneath the album is another structure inspired by my personal ritual practice, including the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP). The four elements, four directions, moon phases, and return to the center weave through the animals and their stories. Those layers are there for anyone who likes opening little doors inside things. But at ground level, these are songs about being human. About a body that remembers danger. About the soft place underneath the quills. About the difference between surviving something and continuing to live as though it's still happening. ABOUT THE MUSIC I write my own lyrics, stories, and concepts. I use Suno to help produce the music, including instrumentals and vocals seeded from my voice. AI is part of my creative process, a tool that allows me to experiment with sound, arrangements, and musical ideas while bringing deeply personal writing into an audible form. The stories, emotions, imagery, and experiences behind these songs are mine. I'm a disabled veteran creating independently, exploring music as a way to communicate with myself, my younger self, and anyone who recognizes a little of themselves in these animals. I'm still learning. I still raise my quills. I still change color to blend in. I still want to disappear sometimes. I still have to turn around and see where my reactions landed. Sometimes the quills are already in. I stumble. I turn around. I repair what I can.
