THE JIROFT CIVILIZATION — KONAR SANDAL Subtitles: English - Persian - Turkish ُ More than four thousand years ago, a remarkable civilization flourished in southeastern Iran, in the Halil Rud valley around modern-day Jiroft. The archaeological discoveries at Konar Sandal have revealed monumental architecture, finely crafted stone vessels, metal objects, distinctive imagery, long-distance trade connections, and a small group of inscribed clay tablets. Among the most intriguing discoveries are the so-called “Geometric” tablets — inscriptions bearing previously unknown signs that have been proposed as evidence of an early writing system. In this episode, we explore what the archaeological evidence can tell us about the people of Jiroft, their material culture, their connections with neighboring civilizations, and the continuing mystery surrounding the Konar Sandal inscriptions. But some questions remain open. Who created these signs? What did they mean? And what can they really tell us about one of the great Bronze Age cultures of ancient Iran? ⚠️ A NOTE ON INTERPRETATION ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ The interpretation of the Konar Sandal “Geometric” inscriptions remains an active subject of scholarly discussion. François Desset proposed that these previously unknown signs represent a genuine writing system. This documentary presents that interpretation alongside the archaeological evidence, while recognizing that the meaning, function, and precise status of the signs remain debated. The terms “Geometric writing” and “writing system” are therefore used in the context of the scholarly proposal rather than as an undisputed historical fact. 📚 SELECTED REFERENCES Dehkordi, M.
