On the morning of 16 September 1913, a cloudburst over Newcastle upon Tyne sent water pouring off the Town Moor and turned Newgate Street into a lake, in about an hour and a half.
Floodwater burst through a school playground fence in Jesmond, broke into Lovaine Hall and brought down a wall at Green Court. This episode follows a city that feared its river, and was flooded from the sky.
