Starting around Edneyville, the route takes you through the rural scenery of Western North Carolina before becoming increasingly mountainous as you approach Chimney Rock and the Hickory Nut Gorge. This isn’t a road we’d compare to technical destinations like the Tail of the Dragon or The Rattler. What makes this stretch of US 64 special is the combination of the ride, scenery and destination. It’s a beautiful way to make your way into one of Western North Carolina’s most recognizable mountain communities. This stretch of US 64 and the Chimney Rock area were heavily impacted by Hurricane Helene and the catastrophic flooding of September 2024. Riding into Chimney Rock today carries a little more meaning knowing what this community and the surrounding area have been through. Recovery and rebuilding have taken time, and work continues throughout the area.
