Tammerkoski became an important industrial center in the latter half of the 18th century and especially in the 19th century. The area has housed Finlayson's factory, a paper mill, Verkatehdas, as well as hydroelectric plants and other industries. Tammerkoskesta tuli 1700-luvun jälkipuolella ja varsinkin 1800-luvulla tärkeä teollisuuskeskittymä. Alueella on ollut Finlaysonin tehdas, paperiruukki, verkatehdas sekä vesivoimaloita sekä muuta teollisuutta.
