JOURNAL ENTRY — 1:24 AM
It's time to infiltrate the syndicate.
The city is drowning in red neon and artificial rain. Somewhere beneath its towering megastructures, a network of corrupt executives, black-market engineers, and rogue intelligence brokers is moving something they shouldn't have. Three informants have vanished. Two surveillance nodes have gone dark. And the only lead I have points to a restricted sector buried deep inside the city's industrial grid.
I've spent the last six hours tracing encrypted transmissions through abandoned terminals and ghost networks. What I found wasn't a shipment manifest or a list of targets. It was a classified file bearing a symbol I haven't seen since my last investigation into the Astraeus anomaly.
Someone inside the syndicate knows what happened.
My contact says the facility is protected by autonomous sentries and a private security force that doesn't officially exist. The city's surveillance grid has blind spots, but only for a few seconds at a time. One mistake, and every camera in the district will be watching me.
I'm ditching the usual channels. No backup. No digital footprint. Just my journal, a scrambled access key, and a borrowed identity that'll expire before sunrise.
If this file reaches the wrong hands, the entire investigation is compromised.
*1:24 AM. Infiltration begins now.*
I've breached the outer perimeter. The access key worked, but the terminal didn't ask for my credentials. It already knew who I was.
Then the lights went out.
A message appeared on the screen, timestamped three minutes into the future.
WELCOME BACK, AGENT ASTRAEUS.
Below it was a live security feed of the facility's deepest chamber.
I recognized the room. I'd seen it before—in a classified photograph recovered from my predecessor's final case. The same chamber he'd supposedly died investigating.
But this time, the feed showed something new.
A figure stood behind the glass, staring directly into the camera.
*It was me.*
Then my earpiece crackled.
A voice I hadn't heard in years whispered, "Agent, if you're seeing this, you're already too late. The syndicate isn't trying to keep you out."
A pause. A sharp breath.
"They're trying to make sure you never leave."
