When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. (ISAIAH 59:19 KJV) EXPLANATION: Blessed be the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Isaiah 59:19 gives us a powerful promise for times when the enemy seems to come against us like a flood. God does not leave His children to fight spiritual battles in their own strength. The Spirit of the Lord is our strength and defense. The enemy often attacks the mind with fear, impure thoughts, temptation, confusion, and discouragement. When these thoughts are allowed to remain, they can affect our peace and our faith. Therefore, we must bring our thoughts under the authority of Christ. The Bible says, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Corinthians 10:5) Before you sleep, place your thoughts into God's hands and ask the Holy Spirit to guard your mind, dreams, and heart. Scripture says, “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” (Romans 8:26) Moses learned that human strength alone was not enough. God taught him to depend on His power. When the Spirit of God works in us, we can stand strong in difficult battles. When the enemy attacks suddenly and affliction surrounds you, do not forget that God is with you. “Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19) Job also held on to faith in the middle of severe trials and declared, “But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:10) The enemy may attack your peace, family, health, future, or faith, but God will never abandon you.
