From Southern University to the Big Screens: Samantha Smith’s Journey of Faith, Legacy & Purpose

What happens when the light you carry on The Yard follows you into every room you enter? On this exclusive episode of From Tha Yard, Armourie sits down with Samantha Smith, a proud Southern University Mass Communications graduate, former Golden Blues dancer, actress, woman of faith, and shining example of what it means to walk boldly in your purpose. Samantha has been acting since she was a young girl and has continued to build an impressive career in the entertainment industry, appearing in projects including Pitch Perfect 2, Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins, First Christmas, Queen Sugar, Mike, and more. But this conversation goes far beyond the credits. We peeled back the layers of how Samantha found her way to Southern University, the powerful family legacy that connected generations of her family to The Bluff, and what it means to watch that legacy continue through her sister, who is currently attending Southern. We also take it back to The Yard and talk about her experience as a member of the legendary Southern University Golden Blues, the lessons she learned during her time at Southern, the people and experiences that shaped her, and how those lessons continue to influence the woman and professional she is today. And then there’s the part of Samantha’s story that cannot be separated from who she is: Her faith. Samantha is unapologetically on fire for God, and throughout this conversation, she shares how faith, purpose, discipline, family, and obedience have helped guide her journey. From the dance floor of Southern University to the entertainment industry, Samantha’s story is a reminder that sometimes The Yard is only the beginning.
