What your child’s naplan report means

Your child’s NAPLAN report has arrived. You see words like developing, strong or exceeding, plus a scale score and a band... but what do those results actually tell you about your child?   And more importantly, how do you work out whether there’s a genuine learning gap that needs attention without panicking over one test result?   In this video, Justine breaks down how to read your child’s NAPLAN report properly, including the information many parents overlook.   NAPLAN is one snapshot of your child’s performance on one day. It can help identify patterns, but it isn’t a measure of intelligence and it doesn’t define your child’s future.   You’ll learn the difference between a NAPLAN scale score and band, why two students with different scores can still sit within the same band, and why looking at growth over time can sometimes tell you much more than the band itself.   We also explain why the band descriptor is one of the most useful parts of the report.
