Who Are the 24 Elders? The Throne Room of Revelation | End Times, Part 6

IN THIS EPISODE An old man weeps in heaven because no one can open the sealed scroll. Then an elder tells him the Lion of Judah has prevailed — and when John turns to look, he sees a Lamb. In Part 6 of The End Times we read Revelation 4–5 slowly: the throne John refuses to draw, the sea of glass, the four living creatures from Ezekiel, the twenty-four elders and the three main ways Christians have understood them, and why casting crowns before a throne meant something very specific in the Roman world. The Lamb is shown as a living lamb, unhurt. WHERE CHRISTIANS DIFFER The twenty-four elders are read as the whole people of God (twelve tribes and twelve apostles), as a heavenly council of angelic beings, or as heaven's priesthood modelled on the twenty-four priestly courses of 1 Chronicles 24. Manuscripts also differ at Revelation 5:9-10 ("redeemed us" in the KJV, "redeemed people" in many older copies). ABOUT THIS SERIES The End Times — Read Slowly. Every line people argue about, read in context and at walking pace: who was in the room, what the King James words actually meant, and what happened next in history. No date-setting. Where Christians genuinely differ, we say so and show the main readings. KJV on screen, sources named.
