In January 2026 the world gold price hit a record near $5,600 an ounce, then fell about a quarter. In India, gold has fallen only about a sixth: ten grams of 24-carat still cost about ₹1.5 lakh. Why didn't the crash reach Indian jewellery shops? In this video we build the price of ten grams of gold from scratch (world price × rupee + import duty + GST), see where every rupee goes, and what it means if you're buying this festive season. Figures as of 12 October 2026, at a world price of about $4,150 an ounce and ₹96.8 to the dollar. The worked example and the ₹7,000 (rupee), ₹11,000 (duty), ₹24,000 (total tax) and 14% figures are our own calculations, not reported numbers. All of these numbers move daily. This video is for education, not investment advice.
