A Conversation with Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor: "The Voice Behind the Mouse" (2004 | 1080P)

“The Voice Behind the Mouse” was a bonus feature on the now difficult to find 2004 DVD release “Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Vol 2.” In interview style with Leonard Maltin, it's a short documentary that explores the history and evolution of Mickey Mouse’s voice, from his first appearance in 1928 through 2003. The featurette follows the evolution of the (then) three official voice actors who have portrayed Mickey over the years: Walt Disney, Jimmy MacDonald, and Wayne Allwine. After Wayne's passing in 2009, Bret Iwan was passed the microphone. It also features archival footage of voice recording sessions, behind-the-scenes stories, and clips from various Mickey Mouse cartoons and films. The short pays tribute to the legacy of Mickey Mouse and his voice, as well as the relationship between the voice actors and the character. Truly a highlight is the IRL love story between voice actors Wayne Allwine and Russi Taylor, who voiced Mickey and Minnie Mouse respectively from 1986 to 2009, and were married until Allwine’s death.
