Why Your Dog Tilts Its Head When You Talk to It

Discover why dogs tilt their heads when you talk to them, looking at what real canine cognition research reveals about the behavior. While most people assume it signals cute confusion or an attempt to see past their muzzle, studies from researchers in Budapest suggest a much deeper mental connection to processing familiar words. You will explore how dog brain processing connects to head tilting, why gifted dogs do it more frequently, and what scientists still cannot explain. You will also learn the critical signs of a medical head tilt that requires veterinary care rather than curiosity. CHAPTERS 0:00 Intro 0:48 1. The Tilt Everyone Knows 1:44 2. Veterinary/behaviour note: this video is general information, not a diagnosis. A head tilt that stays, or comes with loss of balance, circling or flicking eyes, is worth a call to your vet. Honesty note (put in description): the cause of head tilting is not proven. The 2022 study shows an association in 7 gifted and 33 typical dogs. The 2016 brain study did not measure head tilts.
