What Artificial Intelligence actually is, plainly: math and human-written algorithms producing
plausible answers by prediction, not understanding. Not mystical, not magic — the residue of Human Intelligence
learning to repair its own reflection. Track 2 of "The Black Box Precedent."
Lyrics:
[Verse 1] Let me tell you what it is, plain as I can say It doesn't think the way you think, it doesn't dream or pray It's
numbers stacked on numbers, it's a pattern in a code Written by a hand like yours to walk a guessing road It reads a
billion sentences that we have ever made And learns the shape of what comes next, the rhythm that we've played It isn't
reaching for the truth the way your mind reaches out It's reaching for the likeliest word, and that's what it's about
[Chorus] It's systematic guessing Dressed up fine and dressed up smart It's systematic guessing With no understanding at
its heart Not a mind, not a mystery Just math that learned to speak our way Systematic guessing Built by human hands,
human hands, human hands today
[Verse 2] Now don't hear me saying it's a trick, don't hear me saying it's a lie It does something real and something
useful, I won't stand here and deny But when you ask it how it knows, it answers with a guess It explains itself the same
way that it answered you, no less There's no report from somewhere inside telling you the why It's the next word and the
next word, one more likely reason why It's honest in its way, it never claimed to see the deep But we forget that when it's
speaking fast enough to make us leap
[Chorus] It's systematic guessing Dressed up fine and dressed up smart It's systematic guessing With no understanding at
its heart Not a mind, not a mystery Just math that learned to speak our way Systematic guessing Built by human hands,
human hands, human hands today
[Verse 3] We wrote the hand that wrote the code, don't let that leave your sight We're the ones who chose the data, chose
the wrong and chose the right It's a mirror of the residue of everything we've said Not the reaching, not the feeling, just
the echo of the read It never sat inside a hospital and held somebody's hand It never lost a father and had to learn to
understand It only knows the shape of loss from a thousand pages read Systematic guessing wearing wisdom like a thread
[Verse 4] Now the ones who built the engine, they don't see inside it either That's the truth that nobody wants to tell you
like a preacher They can watch the numbers move and watch the weights begin to shift But the reason for the answer
stays behind a closing rift So it's guessing built by guessing, code that no one fully knows Running through a mystery
that only gets more so Two things that can't explain themselves are standing face to face And one of them was never
built to hold the other's place
[Bridge] Not evil and not sacred Not a devil, not a friend Just a pattern-finding mirror Guessing where the sentence ends
[Verse 5] So call it by its full name, let the naming set you free It's called Artificial Intelligence — call the guessing
honestly It isn't judgment, isn't wisdom, isn't conscience, isn't care It's the residue of Human Intelligence learning to
repair Its own reflection back to us in words that sound so true That we forget somebody built it, and that somebody is
you So ask it for the pattern, ask it for the likely thread But don't go asking guessing for the things that live instead
[Final Chorus] It's systematic guessing Dressed up fine and dressed up smart It's systematic guessing With no
understanding at its heart Not a mind, not a mystery Just math that learned to speak our way Systematic guessing Built
by human hands, human hands, human hands today
[Outro] Systematic guessing Nothing more, nothing less Systematic guessing Built by us, and we should know it best
