Vine Street is a street that runs from South to North Urbana. The northernmost end starts at University Avenue in North Urbana and ends at Windsor Rd. in South Urbana by Meadowbrook Park. North of University Avenue, Vine Street becomes Cunningham Avenue where it continues as Route 45 through North Urbana.
The video starts off on the very south end of Vine Street turning off of Windsor Rd. passing through the University Downs neighborhood. Most of these homes were built as alternatives in the 1960s and 1970s as the State Street Urbana houses became too expensive for the average person. At 2:42, on the left is Blair Park. Blair Park was named after J.C. Blair who was the first President of the Urbana Park District Board of Commissioners. This parked was first acquired in 1944. You will find a memorial built for Blair at this corner of Vine St. and Florida Ave. At 3:20, on the left is part of the Urbana Middle School. The Urbana Middle School was built as an extension onto the already existing Urbana High School. The Urbana High School was first established in 1872 and the current structure was built in 1914. The UMS extension was added in 1954 and 1955 along with the additions of the Indoor Aquatic Center and Gymnasium. At 4:31 on the left is home to the Lincoln Square Village. This Mall was one of the first enclosed malls in the State of Illinois and is now considered a historic site. Because of this, there is limited amount of work and renovation that can be done to this mall. Original concepts for this mall included adding condominiums onto the second floor. At 4:38 to the right is the City of Urbana City Building. At 4:58 is the historic Urbana, IL Main Street. At 5:31 is the corner of Vine Street and University Avenue when Vine Street continues as Cunningham Avenue. This intersection used to be referred to as "Five Points" because it used to be a 5-way intersection. However, in the 1970s this intersection was renovated, and the fifth point was removed. The removed point was Cunningham Avenue's extension into Broadway Avenue just north of Main Street. At 7:02 is the Cunningham Children's Home. Named after Joseph and Mary Cunningham, this place has been around since 1895 when it was first built as an orphanage. In 1949, it transitioned to the Cunningham Children's Home starting as a residential treatment center. The Superintendent at the time always wanted it to be a treatment center. At 8:00 is the I-74 overpass. North of I-74, begins rural North Urbana.
