“I Was Green With Evil” is a high-octane, cinematic tribute to Jason David Frank’s unforgettable debut as Tommy Oliver, the original Mighty Morphin Green Ranger. Told largely from Tommy’s perspective, the song transforms his legendary “Green With Evil” origin story into a modern 2026 J-Rock, rap-rock, alternative-metal and electronic superhero anthem.
The song begins in darkness. Ominous synths, heartbeat percussion, deep bass and a mystical Dragon Dagger-inspired flute motif introduce Tommy as Rita Repulsa’s newest weapon. After recognizing his incredible martial-arts ability, Rita places Tommy under her spell, grants him the Green Ranger powers, Dragon Coin, golden Dragon Shield, Dragon Dagger and Sword of Darkness, then unleashes him against the Rangers.
The music erupts into crushing guitars, cinematic drums, distorted 808s and rapid-fire rap as Tommy attacks the original five Rangers, sabotages the Command Center and battles Jason Scott. The massive chorus—“I WAS GREEN WITH EVIL!”—turns Tommy’s corrupted identity into an aggressive battle cry.
The intensity escalates when the Dragon Dagger sounds and Dragonzord rises from the water. Mystical flute collides with industrial guitar, orchestra, electronic bass and pounding percussion as Dragonzord enters battle. But underneath all that power, Tommy begins questioning Rita’s commands. The rapid-fire raps shift from confident aggression into an internal war as the real Tommy struggles to break through.
When Jason destroys the Sword of Darkness and Rita’s spell is broken, the entire song changes. Heavy instrumentation collapses into emotional piano and atmospheric synth as Tommy realizes what he has done. For the first time, he is free to choose who he wants to be.
And Tommy chooses to be a Ranger.
The darkness explodes into triumphant J-Rock as the Green Ranger theme is reborn. Soaring guitars, orchestra, choir and heroic vocals transform the meaning of the song from being “Green With Evil” to becoming Green With Power. Rita may have given Tommy his powers, but she could never own his heart, his identity or his choices.
A blistering final rapid-fire rap celebrates Tommy’s transformation from enemy to brother, puppet to hero, and Rita’s weapon to one of the most legendary Rangers of all time. The song then reaches a massive key-change finale filled with shredding electric guitar, choir, gang vocals and the returning Dragon Dagger motif.
At its heart, “I Was Green With Evil” isn’t simply a song about the Green Ranger being evil.
It’s a song about redemption, free will, identity and choice.
Tommy Oliver may have entered the story as the Rangers’ greatest enemy—but once the choice finally became his, he chose to become their brother.
“I was Green With Evil… but evil was never who I was.”
And behind Tommy’s story is a celebration of the man who brought him to life: Jason David Frank, whose first appearance as the mysterious Green Ranger became the beginning of an extraordinary Power Rangers legacy. 💚🐉⚡
