Happy Birthday to me! Come join in on the fun... ✪ We try to create a show that is all connected with a vibe, so it’s great when your song choices play off others or continue themes, rather than a series of disjointed “now, it’s my turn” moments. Also, chat should help the show, not just yourself. Whenever possible, have your webcam on, because it’s more interesting and interactive. Singing cats also work. ✪ You don’t have to be a great, professional singer, especially if you are entertaining or make great choices. We keep things fresh, so take a chance and avoid the overdone, predictable tunes. A great way to do that is to visit www.karaokenerds.com and check out the “new” tab or the “community” drop-down in the SEARCH bar. We celebrate the various custom community brands over the legacy commercial ones, and although we don’t make money from it, every view helps us with the YouTube algorithm. (There are some artists that will cause issues with copyright, and your performance may be interrupted as a result. The “banned bands” list changes, but avoid the Eagles, Bryan Adams, Tool…feel free to ask in Private Chat, if you are unsure. There are some individual songs that are blocked by the artist, which may explain why the only versions out there are bad or totally different.) ✪ We ask that each panelist have their tech issues sorted out offline, in advance, and ready when it’s their turn. Some chat between songs is fine, but we don’t want to wait for someone to search for their song or click their buttons and set up their mic. (If you have a poor or unstable internet/computer situation, consider turning off your webcam and lowering the resolution of the video in YouTube. Check your audio settings in Windows to make sure that the mic level hasn’t been lowered from 100 percent. I can lower your mic level if it’s too high, but I can’t boost you any more than 200 percent. We want to hear you. Also, wear headphones to avoid echo, and you must have “echo cancellation” turned off BEFORE you share your music screen.) We do not allow people to sing along to their phones or sing over the vocals in the original song. It may be fun for you, but it’s not a good quality option.) ✪ Chat and general interaction is welcome, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the flow of songs or make anyone uncomfortable (or violate YouTube’s Community Standards). Avoid dominating the stream, talking over others, going off on a tangent, or any sense of chaos…(unless you are the host. I do that all the time because I’m a broken human being). Some tense topics may appear, but we ask that everyone approach things as neutrally as possible and avoid derailing the flow. We can discuss things, but always show respect to each other and personal attacks or blatantly offensive comments will not be allowed. ✪ To be clear, this is a diverse and inclusive show and community. International people represented by different languages and culture, people of various gender identities and sexual orientations, people of all races, beliefs (or indifference to), and abilities are welcome and celebrated. While we love to sing classic songs of the past, we are not stuck in it, and if a song has a word that doesn’t work in a modern context, skip over it. It’s not censorship but a show of consideration. Empathy is encouraged. Exceptions to any rule are possible, but should not be assumed.
