Houston to LA: Tonay "Sweets" Dobbs on Ari Lennox, Navigating the music industry, and What's Next

In this episode, we sit down with the incredibly talented Houston-native, Tonya "Sweets" Dobbs, a world-class musician who has shared the stage with icons like Durand Bernarr, Shante Moore, Jordin Sparks, and Ari Lennox. Sweets takes us behind the scenes of her incredible musical journey—from her roots in Houston to her move to Los Angeles three years ago. She opens up about the thrill of being featured on a Grammy-winning track, performing on major television stages like Late Night with Deante Kyle and the Jennifer Hudson Show, and how dating the drummer from Mint Condition influenced her own rhythmic pocket. She also gets vulnerable about the raw reality of the music business, sharing how she navigated the heartbreak of almost touring with Ari Lennox before being replaced, and how she used that pivotal moment to build the mental grit required to stay in the game. Now, Sweets is laser-focused on her next goal: hitting the road with a new band or artist. If you are a music lover, an aspiring musician, or a tour manager/musical director looking for the ultimate addition to your roster, this episode is a masterclass in talent, resilience, and pure hustle. 🎵 Support Tonya "Sweets" Dobbs & Follow Her Journey: 🎧Don't forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more deep-dive interviews with the artists behind your favorite music!#TonyaSweetsDobbs #StevieWonder #Ari Lennox #DurandBernarr #MusicianInterview #TourLife #WomenInMusic #Podcast
