He Was Retired for 17 Years… Then Invested $150K to Build a Business in Thailand
Ed retired after building a successful business, but retirement did not give him the peace and freedom he was looking for. After years of traveling through different countries, including 18 months in Brazil and time across the Caribbean and Southeast Asia, he unexpectedly found that peace in Thailand.
Now, after more than five years living in Thailand, Ed has built a new life around business, community, family, and helping other foreigners navigate life abroad. In this interview, he takes us inside his life in Pattaya, Thailand, and the Workstation TWWs — a coworking and networking community designed to help expats, digital nomads, entrepreneurs, and people relocating to Thailand.
Ed shares why Thailand became home, how retirement changed his perspective, what it costs to operate a business in Thailand, the challenges foreigners can face with visas and local regulations, and why having the right network can make such a difference when moving overseas.
We also explore his vision for building generational wealth, creating a business that his children and staff can continue, expanding TWWs into other locations, and helping Black Americans and other expats build stronger communities abroad.
If you're thinking about moving to Thailand, retiring overseas, becoming a digital nomad, starting a business abroad, or simply wondering what life in Thailand is really like, this conversation offers an inside look at the opportunities and challenges.
