KINETIC THEORY OF GASES | CLASS 11 PHYSICS | INTRODUCTION & MOLECULAR SPEEDS
Welcome to SK Education & Beyond — Learn Beyond Limits!
In this Class 11 Physics Sprint Session, we begin Kinetic Theory of Gases and understand how gas molecules move and how their speeds are described.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Introduction to Kinetic Theory of Gases
Basic assumptions of kinetic theory
Molecular motion and molecular speed
Most probable speed
Average speed
Root mean square (RMS) speed
Important formulas and comparison of the three speeds
Exam-focused conceptual questions
IMPORTANT FORMULAS
Most probable speed = Square root of (2RT/M)
Average speed = Square root of (8RT/pi M)
RMS speed = Square root of (3RT/M)
IMPORTANT RELATION
RMS speed is greater than average speed, which is greater than most probable speed.
Here, T represents absolute temperature in kelvin, R is the universal gas constant, and M is molar mass in kg/mol.
This session is useful for Class 11 Physics students who want to strengthen their concepts and prepare for school examinations and competitive exams.
