KET 220 ex Rotherham Corporation Daimler Double Decker CVG6
Gardner 6LW engine
Its been out of service for over 18 months having an engine replacement, I think it was made from the best bits of two and when I visited Beamish in August it was up and running but on test trial runs and the front grille was missing and the engineering team where dealing with a few issues that still deemed it out of service.
A few weeks later in September 2026 she was on service and sounded far better than the last time I saw her.
Beamish have done another fantastic job giving her a paint touch up and making sure all the grille chrome work was bright and shiny.
Lets hop aboard for a loop around Beamish Open Air Museum
KET 220 was supplied in 1954 to Rotherham Corporation, fitted with a Weymann body and one of a batch of 15 supplied to the town. It is one of only two surviving Rotherham motorbuses, the other being in the Science Museum collection at Wroughton.
220 was used until 1971 where upon the Corporation professionally converted it to carry illuminated panels 2/3 of its height. It was thus used at Christmas time and other festival periods till 1984.
In 1985 it was withdrawn from service and in 1987 it was donated to a preservation group. David Taylor eventually became its owner and carried out the restoration - which also included the reversing the modifications applied in 1971.
Its currently a fleet vehicle to work within the museum carrying the public around the many restored working buildings around the every increasing popular tourist attraction.
