Ep 90 - More Than A Rivalry: The Junior DeLay Story

Send us Fan Mail (https://www.buzzsprout.com/2459106/fa...) Six and two never tastes so sweet and it also comes with a whole lot of math. We’re looking at where Sikeston sits in the district standings, how playoff points really work, why margin of victory caps out, and what has to happen for the Bulldogs to land a top seed and earn more home-field advantage. If you’ve ever stared at a bracket and thought, “How are they even calculating this?”, we talk it through in plain language and keep it tied to what matters on Friday night. Then rivalry week takes over. We bring on Junior DeLay, a lifelong Charleston Blue Jays supporter, former athlete, and former Mississippi County clerk, to give the Charleston perspective on one of Missouri’s long-running high school rivalries. We get into Turkey Day tradition, stories of fans riding the train to the game, packed stands, and the kind of small-town pride that makes a single touchdown feel like an earthquake. Junior also walks us through Charleston’s evolution from football town to basketball town and why the intensity still shows up when the lights come on. Junior’s story goes well beyond sports. He shares how he left Monsanto, won a countywide election by 115 votes against a 28-year incumbent, and what the county clerk job really includes, from payroll to problem-solving across the courthouse. We also talk election integrity and how votes are counted in Missouri, plus his stunning stage four kidney cancer diagnosis and the immunotherapy path that helped save his life.
