In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to compile and run C programs using Code::Blocks and directly from the Windows Command Prompt using GCC, without relying on an IDE. I also explain how to create and use custom header files in C programs involving multiple source files.
English subtitles are available. Enable CC in the YouTube player for better clarity.
Topics covered:
Creating and running a C program in Code::Blocks
Understanding the difference between an IDE and a compiler
Compilation, object files, linking, and executable files
Understanding GCC options such as -c and -o
Compiling and running C programs from the Command Prompt
Creating a Code::Blocks project
Creating custom header files (.h) and implementation files (.c)
Declaring and defining functions across multiple files
Using #include, #define, and function prototypes
Compiling and linking multiple C source files using GCC
Example GCC commands:
Compile a single C file:
gcc main.c -o main.exe
Compile and link multiple C files:
gcc main.c custom.c -o main.exe
The main takeaway is that an IDE like Code::Blocks is optional. You can write C programs using any text editor and compile them using GCC, provided the compiler is installed and properly configured.
