SZ Bay RoadTour: In Spring 2020, I drove from West of Downtown Los Angeles to tour Downtown and Koreatown. Los Angeles Koreatown is historic, an important part of Downtown Los Angeles, and also the largest Koreatown in the United States.

At this time, the COVID-19 pandemic just began to spread in the United States; downtown Los Angeles's pedestrian flow decreased, but city remained orderly. In this Video, Los Angeles had not yet experienced the COVID-19 pandemic; it was beautiful and tranquil. My channel has a special playlist, named "COVID-19 Film Room - China Street Views during Epidemic Lockdown". I filmed a lot of real driving video in Chinese cities, most abundant first-person views record of China's COVID-19 pandemic on the internet.
First, I drove via South Hoover Street and 8th Street to reach Koreatown's central area; then I headed north along Vermont Avenue through Koreatown's commercial district, arriving at 6th Street. From 6th Street heading east, I passed the famous First Congregational Church of Los Angeles and Lafayette Park, arriving at the Korean residential area on Rampart Blvd. From here, I drove onto 101 freeway.
101 Freeway (Hollywood Fwy, U.S. Route 101, Highway 101) leads to Downtown Los Angeles. When traversing Downtown Los Angeles, the highway descends; from a distance, one can see the the Downtown Los Angeles skyline and the towering Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, offering a unique upward-looking city skyline view. From streets around Downtown Los Angeles, one can also overlook Highway 101. This is also a famous assembly and protest site in Los Angeles. When protests happen, the downtown section of Freeway 101 often gets blocked by crowds, causing traffic jams. For example, during the protest in June 2025, protesters occupied Freeway 101 in downtown Los Angeles.
I Appreciate you watching! 💬Anything you'd like to know? Or any great ideas for the video? Please leave your comments.

Los Angeles, often referred to by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in the U.S. state of California, and the commercial, financial, and cultural center of Southern California. With an estimated 3,878,704 residents within the city limits as of 2024, it is the second-most populous in the United States, behind only New York City. Los Angeles has an ethnically and culturally diverse population, and is the principal city of a metropolitan area of 12.9 million people (2024). Greater Los Angeles, a combined statistical area that includes the Los Angeles and Riverside–San Bernardino metropolitan areas, is a sprawling metropolis of over 18.5 million residents.

Koreatown (Korean: 코리아타운, Koriataun) is a neighborhood in central Los Angeles, California, centered near Eighth and Irolo streets. Koreans began immigrating in larger numbers in the 1960s and found housing in the Mid-Wilshire area.
By the late 1970s, most businesses in the Olympic Boulevard and 8th Street areas were owned by Koreans. This economic boom led to the creation of Korean media outlets and community organizations, which played a key role in developing a sense of communal identity in the neighborhood. The ethnic enclave was able to establish itself as the primary hub of the Korean community in Southern California, and the residents successfully lobbied for the installation of the first Koreatown sign in 1982.
1992 Los Angeles riots
During the time of the riots, there was racial strife between Black and Korean Americans. An 18-year-old Korean American, Edward Song Lee, and his three friends went to protect a Korean-owned pizza shop, along with other store owners and volunteers who would constitute the rooftop Koreans.
