My Wandering Journey Through Chenghua (Part 2)
Starting from Qinglongchang, I wandered to the Zoo and Shengxian Lake, returned to the TV Tower by dusk, and found myself at Wannianchang by night—all following serendipity.
Chengdu Zoo: A place I adored as a child. Most facilities remain unchanged, though generations of animals have come and gone. The zoo endures as a shared memory for Chengdu locals and a forever favorite for children. Within it lies the tomb of Zen Master Yuanwu—a detail I’d overlooked for years.
Zhaojue Temple: Built during Tang Emperor Taizong’s reign, initially named "Jianyuan Temple." Renamed "Zhaojue" by Emperor Xizong. Regarded as a spiritual ancestor by temples across Japan and Southeast Asia. Master Yuanwu’s works like "茶禅一味" (Ichigo Ichie - Tea and Zen as One) profoundly shaped Japanese tea ceremony.
Shengxian Lake Park: A man-made lake, unremarkable in dull weather. What captivates me is its autumn metasequoia forest—a blazing crimson spectacle. Crowds gather here to stroll or camp, filling the air with lively chatter.
339 TV Tower: Chengdu’s iconic landmark and cultural symbol. The surrounding hub thrums with youthful energy—endless food, entertainment, and my frequent visits. Summer’s jacarandas and autumn’s ginkgos frame the riverside teahouses and cafés. Sipping tea, chatting, daydreaming… sheer bliss.
Wannianchang: Once my long-time home, it holds deep sentimental value. I cherish its vibrant, gritty, electrifying street life.
Chenghua overflows with treasures. For three months, I’ve explored it through "street-photography strolls"—rediscovering its soul with every step.
