M S Subbulakshmi was invited to perform at the United Nations General Assembly, New York, in connection with United Nations Day, on the 23rd of October, 1966, a watershed moment for Indian Classical Music on the world stage. In connection with this visit, a public tour was organised with concerts at various centres across the United States commencing on the 6th of October, 1966, at Colgate University, Hamilton, New York. This concert was originally recorded by Colgate University, and was reproduced by Pan Orient Arts Foundation, headed by James R Rubin.
